BCB alters BPL 2025-26 schedule, moves matches away from Chattogram

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to host the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Sylhet and Dhaka, omitting Chattogram from the list of host venues.

Initially, the tournament was scheduled to shift to Chattogram after the Sylhet phase ended on January 3. However, the schedule was altered following the death of national leader Begum Khaleda Zia, which caused a halt in the tournament.

Iftekhar Rahman, BPL governing council member secretary, explained the decision: "We have a two-day gap and to adjust those two days we have decided to bring BPL only in two venues. We cannot adjust it without this. So we are sorry for the fans of Chattogram but under current circumstance we have to cancel the game in Chattogram. We can save two travelling days."

Updated itinerary:

  • Sylhet International Stadium will host matches until January 12.
  • The tournament then moves to Dhaka, with the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur hosting matches from January 15.

Playoff schedule:

  • Eliminator and first Qualifier: January 19 (double-header)
  • Second Qualifier: January 21
  • Final: January 23

Concerns over Sylhet pitches:

There were concerns about hosting matches in Sylhet until January 12, as the pitches might be overused and not produce enough runs. Iftekhar addressed this, stating that four pitches will be used instead of two in Sylhet to ensure good playing surfaces throughout the tournament.
