Head now has three hundreds in this Ashes series, all as an opener. He is the seventh Australian to score three centuries as an opener in an Ashes series, joining Joe Darling (1897/98), Bill Woodfull (1928/29), Arthur Morris (1946/47 & 1948), Bill Lawry (1965/66), Michael Slater (1994/95 & 1998/99), and Matthew Hayden (2002/03).

His 150 came off 152 balls, the joint-fourth fastest 150 in Ashes history.

Tough outing for England bowlers

Australia have had seven partnerships of 50 runs or more in this innings, the second-most in a Test innings ever (India had eight against England at The Oval in 2007).

This is the 22nd instance in Test history of a 50+ partnership for each of the first five wickets, and the third in Ashes history (Australia at The Oval in 2001 and The Gabba in 2006/07).

Joe Root extends his Test supremacy

Joe Root scored his 41st Test hundred, drawing level with Ricky Ponting for third all-time, behind only Sachin Tendulkar (51) and Jacques Kallis (45). Root now needs 1,985 more runs to surpass Tendulkar's record tally of 15,921.

Since 2021, Root has 24 Test centuries, far ahead of second-placed Steven Smith (11). His conversion rate from 50+ scores to hundreds since 2021 is 58.53%, a massive increase from 25.75% from his debut until 2020.

Root now has 17 scores of 150 or more in Tests, a figure exceeded only by Sachin Tendulkar (20), Brian Lara (19), Kumar Sangakkara (19), and Don Bradman (18). Alastair Cook is next for England with 11.

He has scored 150+ in seven different countries, joint-second with Steve Waugh, Brian Lara, and Kumar Sangakkara, and one behind Sachin Tendulkar and Younis Khan (eight each).

77 wickets for Ben Stokes as England Test captain, drawing him level with Bob Willis for the most by an England captain. Ray Illingworth is next with 51.
