MI Cape Town beat rain to claim first win
Rain in Cape Town delayed the start of the SA20 match between MI Cape Town and Joburg Super Kings by an hour. After a brief start, further rain interrupted play for 71 minutes, reducing the match to 12 overs per side.
Joburg Super Kings, batting first, were propelled by a blistering 44 off 19 balls from Faf du Plessis. After his dismissal, the innings stuttered to 123/7, with Corbin Bosch taking 3/24 for Cape Town.
Chasing a revised target of 128, MI Cape Town relied on powerful hitting. Nicholas Pooran smashed 33 off 12 balls, while Rassie van der Dussen scored 35 off 24. With 26 needed off 12 balls, the game seemed to slip away when van der Dussen fell.
However, Jason Smith played a crucial cameo, blasting 22 off just 7 balls, including three sixes. His late assault allowed Karim Janat and Corbin Bosch to guide MI Cape Town to a four-wicket victory with four balls to spare.
The win marks MI Cape Town's first victory of the season after five previous matches.
