No T20 World Cup ultimatum from ICC, says BCB
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday rejected media claims that the International Cricket Council (ICC) issued an ultimatum for Bangladesh to play the T20 World Cup in India or forfeit points. This follows BCB's formal request to the ICC to relocate its matches at the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup due to security concerns.
In a statement, BCB confirmed it has received a response from the ICC and is now working on it. The ICC reiterated its commitment to ensuring Bangladesh's full participation and expressed willingness to work closely with BCB to address security concerns, assuring that BCB's inputs will be considered in event security planning.
BCB categorically denied media reports of an ultimatum, calling them "completely false and unfounded." The board emphasized its commitment to the safety and security of the national team and stated it will continue constructive engagement with the ICC to ensure Bangladesh's smooth participation in the 2026 tournament.
BCB president Aminul Islam is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting with directors today, and directors will also meet sports advisor Asif Nazrul in the evening.
