Peake's last-ball six ends Scorchers' three-win streak
Oliver Peake launched Aaron Hardie over fine leg for a six off the final ball to seal a stunning four-wicket victory for Melbourne Renegades, breaking Perth Scorchers' three-match winning streak. With four needed off the last delivery, the 19-year-old stepped away and executed a perfectly timed scoop that sailed over the boundary, capping an unbeaten 42 off 30 balls.
The foundation was laid by Gurinder Sandhu's spell of 4 for 28, his career-best BBL figures. After being inserted to bat, Perth's innings spluttered from the outset, managing just 22/1 in the powerplay on a two-paced surface.
Jason Behrendorff struck early, cleaning up Cooper Connolly. Mitchell Marsh hit two sixes but fell for 27 off 25 to Hassan Khan, who took 2 for 26. Behrendorff was miserly with 1 for 11 from three overs.
Aaron Hardie top-scored with 44 off 40, but Sandhu returned to trigger a collapse, taking three wickets in four balls in the penultimate over as Scorchers folded for 127.
Chasing 128, Renegades started well with Josh Brown making 22 off 14, but his dismissal began a middle-order wobble. Tim Seifert was run out, Mohammad Rizwan labored to 21 off 25, and quick wickets reduced them to 72/5.
Peake and captain Will Sutherland then added a crucial 42 for the sixth wicket. Sutherland's 15 absorbed pressure, leaving 14 needed off nine balls when he fell.
With four required off the final delivery, Peake moved away and scooped Hardie over fine leg for six, sealing the win.
