BCB Official's Comment on Tamim Sparks Backlash
Bangladesh Cricket Board finance committee chairman M Nazmul Islam has sparked controversy by accusing former national captain Tamim Iqbal of being "an Indian agent."
The remark followed Tamim's recent interview where he urged the BCB to prioritize cricket before finalizing Bangladesh's participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. This comes after the BCB decided against traveling to India, citing security concerns, following the BCCI's request for Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman for the IPL.
Although Nazmul deleted the Facebook post after widespread backlash, screenshots have gone viral. In the post, he wrote: "This time, the people of Bangladesh witnessed, with their own eyes, the emergence of yet another proven Indian agent."
The Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) stated it has written to the BCB president, demanding a public apology and accountability from the director. The CWAB called the remark "utterly condemnable" and "insulting to the entire cricketing community."
Several Bangladesh cricketers, including Taskin Ahmed, Mominul Haque, and Taijul Islam, expressed their displeasure on social media.
- Taijul Islam called the statement "tasteless" and "completely unacceptable," demanding a public apology.
- Mominul Haque said the comment was "insulting" and showed a "lack of basic decorum," urging swift action from the BCB.
- Taskin Ahmed stated such remarks are not helpful for Bangladesh cricket and hoped authorities would adopt a more responsible stance.
