Lightning forces abandonment after Vince's 75 takes JSK to 187

Match 17 of the SA20 between the Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals at The Wanderers Stadium was abandoned due to inclement weather. The first innings, in which the Super Kings amassed 187/6 in 20 overs, was interrupted due to a floodlight outage in the 19th over with play resuming shortly after. However, the start of the second innings was delayed due to severe lightning in the area and play was eventually abandoned with no improvement in conditions.

This was the Super Kings' second no-result after their game against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape was abandoned due to rain earlier this week at the same venue. The standings on the points table remained unchanged as the points were shared—the Super Kings joined table-toppers SEC on 17 points while the Royals moved up to 15 points.

Earlier, the Super Kings openers got the team off to a flying start after being asked to bat first. Both James Vince and Faf du Plessis were quick to gain an understanding of the surface and smashed 64 runs off the PowerPlay.

The Royals' breakthrough came in the eighth over when Sikandar Raza bowled Du Plessis off his very first delivery. Matthew de Villiers got going with a six off Bjorn Fortuin and two fours off Raza and enjoyed some early luck as he was dropped.

The Super Kings went on to lose five wickets in six overs, including that of Vince in the 17th. But they managed to keep the boundaries flowing to finish with 187/6.

Brief Scores: Joburg Super Kings 187/6 (James Vince 75; Sikandar Raza 2-26) vs Paarl Royals – No result.
