New-look DC seek quick turnaround against Giants
Three games into the WPL, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants come into Sunday's match with contrasting results.
The Capitals were heavily beaten by Mumbai Indians in their opening game. The bowlers leaked runs, with all three spinners—Sneh Rana, Shree Charani, and Minnu Mani—conceding over 9.5 runs per over. Debutant Nandini Sharma was a bright spark, taking two of the four wickets to fall.
With the bat, only Chinelle Henry stood out, scoring a valiant half-century. The next highest score was just 12 by Niki Prasad. The top order struggled against early seam movement, and the middle order failed to build partnerships.
The Giants, however, started the WPL with a win for the first time in the competition's history. Anushka Sharma and Ashleigh Gardner set the tone, while Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali powered the finish, lifting the team to their highest WPL total of 207 for 4.
A combined bowling effort was led by Georgia Wareham, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Sophie Devine, each taking two wickets. However, they will want to improve at the death after conceding 54 runs in the last five overs against UP Warriorz.
