BCB issues clarity on Integrity Unit's routine operations
The Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) Integrity Unit stated on Sunday that routine integrity operations are being conducted for the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League under the ICC's global integrity framework, in response to credible suspicions.
This follows recent criticism from two franchises, Dhaka Capitals and Noakhali Express, regarding the unit's activities. Dhaka Capitals CEO Atik Fahad publicly expressed frustration, threatening the franchise's future participation. He revealed that Integrity Unit officials entered Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz's hotel room early in the morning without prior notice, confusing the player and prompting him to say he would not return if such incidents continued. Noakhali Express also lodged a protest after a member was allegedly harassed in the dressing room.
In its statement, the BCB said:
- These measures are part of a zero-tolerance policy against corrupt activities and operate under the ICC's anti-corruption code, with no rights violations.
- The unit's preventive measures have led to an approximately 80% reduction in alerts for suspicious activities.
- As part of standard procedures, several foreign players have been spoken to privately as witnesses to verify recruitment, contracts, and payments. These confidential meetings are preventive and do not imply guilt or investigation.
The BCB reiterated its firm commitment to protecting the credibility, transparency, and reputation of the Bangladesh Premier League.
