Northern Superchargers rebranded as Sunrisers Leeds

The Northern Superchargers franchise in The Hundred has been renamed SunRisers Leeds. This follows the acquisition of 100 per cent of Yorkshire's stake in the team by the Sun Group, the parent company of the SunRisers chain.

"A new era begins," the franchise announced. "SunRisers is not just a team, it is family, it is emotion, it's passion."

Owner Kaviya Maran said: "Orange Army has always shown up in huge numbers with pure passion, from India to South Africa. It's time to paint Headingley orange. We're ready to go hard, we're ready to go fearless. We're ready to play with fire. The team is yours, Orange Army."

The Sun Group purchased the Northern Superchargers for around £100 million in early 2025 when the ECB opened The Hundred to private ownership.

This move is part of a broader trend of private investment in The Hundred:

  • Reliance Industries, owners of the Mumbai Indians, purchased the Oval Invincibles and rebranded them as MI London.
  • The RPSG Group, owners of the Lucknow Super Giants, acquired the Manchester Originals and renamed them Manchester SuperGiants.
