Three WPL games in Navi Mumbai set for empty stands

Three Women's Premier League games, scheduled for January 14, 15, and 16 at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, are set to be played without spectators, according to sources.

The late change is due to police being occupied with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation election duties on January 15, unable to provide security for the matches. Extra forces from other parts of Maharashtra have been called in for election support.

While an official announcement is pending, the ticketing partner has not listed tickets for these matches online.

The affected fixtures are:

  • January 14: Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz
  • January 15: Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz
  • January 16: Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Notably, the election date was announced on December 15, over two weeks after the WPL schedule release.

Spectators will return for the final day in Navi Mumbai on January 17, featuring a double-header:

  • Afternoon: Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz
  • Evening: Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Thereafter, the league shifts to Kotambi's Baroda Cricket Association Stadium from January 19 to February 5, hosting the remaining nine league games, playoffs, and the final.
