Anushka Sharma ruled out of MI game with injured hand

Anushka Sharma, the 22-year-old Gujarat Giants batter, has been ruled out of the game against Mumbai Indians after injuring her right hand ahead of their third league game of the Women's Premier League 2026. The injury occurred while fielding against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, and she will be out for "a short period," the franchise confirmed.

The franchise stated: "Anushka Sharma will be out of action for a short period as she recovers from a minor injury sustained while fielding during our match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday night. Anushka is under the close supervision of the team's medical staff and is progressing well. She will be a big miss for the side, but her health and long-term well-being remain our priority."

Ayushi Soni, a 25-year-old Delhi batter with one T20I cap, has been named as her replacement for the match against MI. Anushka traveled with the team and was seen with a plaster on her right hand. Giants head coach Michael Klinger expects her to return to full fitness by the start of the Baroda leg of the tournament.

In her WPL debut, Anushka scored a composed 44 against UP Warriorz, laying the foundation for a 10-run win. In the following match against Delhi Capitals, she made a stunning boundary save that contributed to a thrilling four-run victory.

Other team news:

  • Hayley Matthews has returned to the Mumbai Indians side after missing the first two games due to a shoulder niggle.
  • Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of the encounter due to illness.
