Strikers sign off with dominant win as spinners skittle Renegades
Adelaide Strikers ended their BBL campaign with a resounding eight-wicket victory over Melbourne Renegades at Adelaide Oval. In a dead rubber between eliminated sides, the Strikers' bowlers produced a clinical performance to dismiss the Renegades for 99 in 16.5 overs before cruising to the target with 49 balls to spare.
The match began sensationally as seamer Jerrssis Wadia claimed wickets off the first two deliveries, dismissing Josh Brown and Jake Fraser-McGurk. The Renegades never recovered, limping to 26 for 3 in the PowerPlay—their worst of the season—and were 51 for 5 when captain Will Sutherland arrived.
Sutherland provided the only meaningful resistance with 38 off 28 balls, hitting three sixes and two boundaries. Wadia finished with 2 for 11 from four overs.
South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi delivered the knockout blow, taking the last four wickets to finish with career-best BBL figures of 4 for 15. Lloyd Pope contributed 2 for 23 as the Strikers' spin trio combined for eight wickets.
Chasing 100, the Strikers made light work of the target. Captain Matt Short top-scored with 30 off 22 balls, while Chris Lynn remained unbeaten on 27 off 25 as the hosts reached the target in 11.5 overs.
Brief scores:
Melbourne Renegades 99 in 16.5 overs (Will Sutherland 38; Tabraiz Shamsi 4-15, Jerrssis Wadia 2-11) lost to Adelaide Strikers 100/2 in 11.5 overs (Matt Short 30, Chris Lynn 27*) by 8 wickets.
