Gill's Ranji participation confirmed; India captain leaves for Rajkot
Shubman Gill is set to play the upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture against Saurashtra in Rajkot, with his participation confirmed by sources.
Leading India in an ODI in Indore on Sunday night, Gill flew to Delhi on Monday morning to join his state side. The match begins on January 22. At the time of reporting, Gill was in Delhi, from where he will travel to Rajkot.
A Punjab Cricket Association source stated: "His participation in the Ranji fixture is confirmed. He will take part in the Saurashtra game. The India captain is flying eight hours to feature in a domestic game. That is commitment."
Punjab, led by Naman Dhir, are in the lower half of Elite Group B with one win and one defeat from five games. Their chances of reaching the knockouts depend on outright wins in their remaining two matches, including this one and a fixture against Karnataka starting January 29. Gill last played a Ranji match in the previous season, against Karnataka.
As reported, Ravindra Jadeja, who also played in the ODI, will feature for Saurashtra. Meanwhile, the Indian team has arrived in Nagpur for the first of five T20Is against New Zealand, starting January 21.
