Stats: Records tumble as NZ secure first ever ODI series win in India

Stats highlights from the third ODI between India and New Zealand in Indore:

1 – New Zealand have registered their first-ever bilateral ODI series win in India since 1988, after 37 years and seven consecutive series losses. Before this series, New Zealand had won just eight out of 39 completed ODI matches against India in India.

In the second ODI of this series, New Zealand achieved their highest target – 285 runs – in India, bettering their 283-run chase against England in Ahmedabad in the opening game of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

New Zealand's victory in the second ODI also saw them register their first win against India after eight consecutive losses in ODIs since 2023.

3 – This series is only the third bilateral ODI series loss for India out of 19 at home in the last 10 years since 2016. The other two came against Australia in 2019 and 2023.

1 – This is India's first home ODI loss after winning the toss since October 2022, after winning 13 successive games.

4 – Daryl Mitchell registered his ninth ODI hundred and fourth against India in 11 innings in ODIs – only Nathan Astle (5) has scored more for New Zealand against India.

4 – This is also the fourth ODI century for Mitchell in India – the joint-most for a New Zealand batter alongside Astle. All four of his centuries against India have come on Indian soil. Only AB de Villiers (5) has hit more hundreds against India in India than Mitchell.

1 – Today is also the first instance of two New Zealand batters scoring hundreds against India in the same ODI innings. Glenn Phillips scored 106 runs off just 88 balls.

219 – Runs scored for the fourth wicket stand between Mitchell and Phillips is the second-highest partnership for the fourth wicket or lower against India in ODIs. It is only behind 221* runs added by Kane Williamson and Tom Latham for the fourth wicket in Auckland in 2022. This is also the second-highest partnership for New Zealand against India for any wicket in ODI cricket.

Kohli continues to take giant strides

7 – Virat Kohli scored his seventh ODI hundred against New Zealand. This was his 85th International century, 54th in ODI cricket and 41st hundred on home soil across formats. His seven centuries against New Zealand are the most by a batter against the New Zealanders in ODIs, bettering six each by Ricky Ponting and Virender Sehwag.
