Nat Sciver-Brunt's ton headlines MI's sizzling win
Nat Sciver-Brunt scored an unbeaten 100 off 57 balls, ending the WPL's long wait for a century, to help Mumbai Indians beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 15 runs in Vadodara. The win moved MI up to second in the table.
Sciver-Brunt's knock headlined MI's dominant batting performance as they posted 199 for 4, the highest total so far in the Vadodara leg of the tournament. She was well supported by Hayley Matthews, who contributed 56 off 39 balls.
In reply, RCB suffered a dramatic collapse, losing half their side inside the PowerPlay. Despite a stunning 90 from Richa Ghosh, they fell short, finishing at 184 for 9.
MI's Innings: Sciver-Brunt's Historic Knock
Lauren Bell gave RCB an early breakthrough, dismissing Sajeevan Sajana, and RCB restricted MI to just 38 runs in the PowerPlay. However, Sciver-Brunt and Matthews steadily built a foundation before accelerating.
Sciver-Brunt targeted Nadine de Klerk and Shreyanka Patil to bring up her fifty. She continued the assault, adding three more boundaries in an over off Radha Yadav. Matthews soon brought up her own half-century.
The pair added 131 runs before Bell broke the partnership in her final over. The flow of boundaries, however, did not stop. In the process, Sciver-Brunt became the first batter to score over 300 runs in a WPL season on three different occasions (2023, 2025, and 2026). She closed out the penultimate over on 99 before finally becoming the first player to register a century in the competition.
RCB's Chase: Collapse and a Valiant Fightback
RCB's chase began aggressively, with Grace Harris hitting Sciver-Brunt for three consecutive boundaries, taking 20 runs off the first two overs. However, MI's bowlers then ripped through the top order.
Shabnim Ismail started the slide by removing Harris. Hayley Matthews then struck twice in an over, claiming the big wickets of Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll. Ismail knocked over Gautami Naik's stumps, and Matthews struck again to leave RCB reeling at 35 for 5.
Nadine de Klerk and Richa Ghosh arrested the slide briefly before Amelia Kerr broke the partnership. Ghosh initially curbed her natural game before launching a spectacular counter-attack late on.
Needing an improbable 71 off 18 balls with two wickets left, Ghosh hammered a six to bring up her fifty. She then smashed three consecutive sixes in the penultimate over off Amanjot Kaur, which yielded 27 runs. Shreyanka Patil added two fours to end the over.
Ghosh started the final over with another boundary, but with 28 needed off 5 balls, Kerr bowled a dot ball to effectively seal the game. Ghosh hit two more sixes before being dismissed off the final ball, finishing on 90.
Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 199/4 in 20 overs (Nat Sciver-Brunt 100*, Hayley Matthews 56; Lauren Bell 2/21) beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru 184/9 in 20 overs (Richa Ghosh 90; Hayley Matthews 3/10, Shabnim Ismail 2/25) by 15 runs.
