Selectors await CoE feedback as Sundar remains in World Cup frame
The National Selection Committee appears prepared to wait on Washington Sundar. With just two days until the start of the T20 World Cup, there is no indication yet that Ajit Agarkar and the selectors are seeking a replacement.
It is understood the selectors are awaiting further details from the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). As of Thursday, Sundar remains part of the team management and selectors’ plans for the World Cup.
The 26-year-old all-rounder, recovering from a side strain sustained last month, was absent from the squad during Wednesday night’s warm-up match against South Africa. Sundar is believed to have some additional time to regain fitness.
How long the team management and selectors will wait is unclear, but they are currently in no rush to replace the Tamil Nadu player. The final decision will depend on advice from the CoE trainers and physios, who have not yet given up hope on Sundar’s readiness for the tournament.
Sundar suffered the side strain during India’s first ODI against New Zealand last month and has been undergoing rehabilitation at the CoE since.
Separately, the BCCI and selectors have no information regarding any serious injury to Harshit Rana. The Delhi and KKR bowler left the field on Wednesday night after bowling just one over, raising fitness concerns, but sources indicate the BCCI has not received any update on his condition.
