Madushan replaces injured Eshan Malinga in Sri Lanka's World Cup squad

Sri Lanka have named Pramod Madushan as a replacement for the injured Eshan Malinga in their squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Malinga was ruled out after sustaining a shoulder injury during the T20I against England on February 1. Madushan, initially omitted from the 15-member squad announced earlier this month, returns as a like-for-like replacement.

The 24-year-old medium-fast bowler has played eight T20Is for Sri Lanka, taking 12 wickets at an economy rate of 8.63. He was part of the squad that hosted England before being released when the final World Cup squad was named on February 2. His last T20I appearance was in April 2023.

Madushan joins a pace attack led by Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera. The 2014 champions begin their campaign against Ireland at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 8. Australia, Oman, and Zimbabwe complete their group.

Sri Lanka squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara, Kusal Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Janith Perera, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Pavan Rathnayake, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana, Pramod Madushan.
