BCB president opts out of attending India-Pakistan World Cup clash
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam has changed his mind at the last minute and decided not to travel to Colombo to watch the India-Pakistan match at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
BCB officials confirmed the development to Cricbuzz on Saturday following a meeting, as Aminul opted to return to Dhaka from Kuwait, where he attended a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council.
Aminul had earlier hinted that he was looking to attend the clash with other Asian cricket board officials in Colombo to break ice between BCB and BCCI. Aminul, who played a big part in convincing Pakistan to reconsider their decision and play against India during a tripartite meeting in Lahore, received an official invitation from the ICC to attend the match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
BCB umpires committee chairman Iftekhar Rahman told Cricbuzz, "I spoke with Aminul Islam. Since Bangladesh isn't in it, he said, 'Why should I go there just to watch the match?' So he refused."
He added, "Maybe at first he said he would go but later realized if Bangladesh isn't playing, what's the point of going unnecessarily."
