Next coach's duty station will be in Afghanistan – ACB chief
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) wants its next national head coach and support staff to be based in Afghanistan during the off season, ACB chief executive Naseeb Khan said.
With Jonathan Trott stepping down after Afghanistan's group stage exit in the T20 World Cup, the ACB is working to appoint a new head coach.
"We have stated in the contract that their duty station will be Afghanistan," said Naseeb Khan. "We want the national team coaches to closely observe our domestic cricket players. And when there are no series scheduled, they should work on improving the national team's weak points."
Naseeb Khan expressed confidence in appointing the next head coach before Afghanistan's upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, scheduled in Dubai shortly after the T20 World Cup.
The series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, is set to be played in Dubai and Sharjah between March 13-25.
"Our HR and technical department are currently working on the process," said Naseeb Khan. "They have shortlisted three coaches and interviews have been conducted. We will announce the appointment before the Sri Lanka series once finalized. Two of them are from South Africa and one is Asian. We have not finalized contracts yet, so mentioning names would be premature."
