Miller ignites, Jansen strikes and Maharaj finishes as SA flatten India

The men's T20 World Cup Super Eights match between India and South Africa saw the visitors secure a commanding victory.

David Miller took charge of South Africa's innings after they slipped to 20/3 in the fourth over. He hammered boundaries off Varun Chakaravarthy and Arshdeep Singh, then smoked Washington Sundar and Hardik Pandya for sixes. He reached his half-century off 26 balls by hoisting Shivam Dube over cover for six.

Miller's 63 off 35 balls, with 56 runs in boundaries, provided the foundation. He shared a 97-run stand off 51 balls with Dewald Brevis and a 32-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs before being dismissed.

South Africa posted 187/7. In reply, India's chase faltered immediately. Marco Jansen dismissed Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma in his first two overs, reducing India to 26/3 in 27 balls—their lowest score at three-down in the tournament. Their Powerplay yielded just 31/3.

A 35-run partnership between Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya offered brief resistance, but the match was decisively sealed in the 15th over. Keshav Maharaj ripped through the middle order, removing Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, and Arshdeep Singh in a single over, all caught by Tristan Stubbs at long-on.

Jansen returned in the 19th over to dismiss Dube and Jasprit Bumrah with consecutive deliveries, ending the match.

South Africa won by 76 runs, the second-heaviest defeat India have suffered in T20Is when batting second. The crowd of 81,429 began streaming for the exits early as India collapsed to 86/7. Jasprit Bumrah's figures of 3/15 were a lone bright spot for India, but it was not enough against a confident South African side that remains unbeaten in the tournament.
