Afghanistan appoint Richard Pybus as new head coach

Richard Pybus has been appointed Afghanistan's new head coach following the team's group stage exit at the T20 World Cup. He replaces Jonathan Trott, who coached Afghanistan for four years.

Pybus has extensive coaching experience, including guiding Pakistan to the final of the 1999 World Cup. He also served as director of cricket for West Indies when their men's, women's, and U19 teams won World Cup titles in 2016.

He maintained a long association with West Indian cricket, first as high performance director in 2018, then as interim head coach in 2019. Pybus also had a brief stint as head coach of Bangladesh in 2012.

His first assignment with Afghanistan will be a white-ball series against Sri Lanka in the UAE. The first T20I is scheduled for March 13 in Sharjah.
