BCB facilities committee chairman slams board structure
Bangladesh Cricket Board's facilities committee chairman Shanian Taneem criticized the current structure of the board, stating he could not complete even 10 percent of his planned work due to structural flaws. This marks the first time a board director has openly criticized the BCB under president Aminul Islam.
Taneem highlighted that BCB's finance, tender, and purchase committees often slow progress by over-scrutinizing prices, which delays projects until weather conditions become unfavorable.
"Honestly, I am not used to working like this. If I had the freedom, work like installing a drainage system could start immediately. But I am answerable to processes—budget allocation, board approvals, vendor appointments. In these four or five months, I haven't even done 10 percent of my work," Taneem told reporters in Bogura.
He outlined plans for a state-of-the-art cricket arena in Rangpur to groom Under-17 and Under-19 players, noting he has submitted all necessary budgeting and planning.
"I am not blaming any individual. We are restricted by rules, and maybe this is how it works in Bangladesh. It's disappointing," he added.
Taneem cited mistrust as a major issue within BCB, where motives are often questioned. "Even if you want to do simple work, nine out of ten people will first think about how much money I am making from it. Such allegations against BCB directors are unfortunate."
He also expressed disappointment over Bangladesh not participating in the ongoing T20 World Cup, replaced by Scotland due to security concerns. "I am sure the players are still feeling the disappointment. Bangladesh cricket should have been kept aside from politics. When a World Cup slips away from a player's career, it must feel terrible."
Bangladesh did not participate in the T20 World Cup after the interim government cited security concerns.
