MCA launches Women's T20 Mumbai League; three teams fetch in excess of INR 4 crore
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has sold three franchises for its upcoming women's T20 league, modelled on the men's T20 Mumbai League and the IPL. The sale has added over INR 4 crore to the MCA.
The league is tentatively scheduled from June 1 to 15, alongside the men's tournament, following the IPL.
The seven-match league will feature three icon players: Jemimah Rodrigues, Saima Thakor, and Sayali Satghare, subject to availability. It will be exclusively for women cricketers from Mumbai, which has around 55 affiliated clubs. An auction is planned.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik said: "The overwhelming response to the bidding process is a strong endorsement of our vision to elevate women's cricket in Mumbai. The participation of reputed corporate groups reflects the growing commercial confidence in the women's game."
The winning bidders are:
- PRS Infraprojects LLP: INR 2.25 crore (Rank 1)
- Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd: INR 1.09 crore (Rank 2)
- World Star Sporting Private Limited: INR 79 lakh (Rank 3)
These bidders will be awarded team rights subject to formalities. Details will be finalized by the T20 Mumbai Governing Council.
T20 Mumbai League Governing Council Chairman Rajdip Gupta said: "The successful bidding marks an important milestone. The strong bids underline the league's credibility. We look forward to working with franchise owners to deliver a high-quality tournament."
