Inaugural WBPL shifted to July 2026
The much anticipated Women's Bangladesh Premier League is all set to be shifted to July, a top BCB official confirmed to Cricbuzz. Initially, the BCB had announced that the inaugural edition would be played between April 3-15.
However, a lack of interest from sponsors and the failure to secure a third franchise forced the BCB to postpone the tournament. The event was supposed to be Bangladesh's first franchise-based T20 competition for women.
"We are planning to host the tournament in July rather than from April," the official confirmed. The BCB earlier stated that the inaugural edition will feature three teams, bringing together leading national cricketers alongside emerging talents. Local players will be selected through a player draft system.
Franchises will also be allowed to sign overseas professional players. Rubaba Dowla, BCB Director and Chairperson of the BCB Women's Wing, has been appointed Chairperson of the WBPL Governing Council.
