Pakistan lodge complaint over Bangladesh's contentious last-over review
The Pakistan team have lodged a complaint with match referee Neeyamur Rashid following a contentious DRS review in the final over of the third ODI against Bangladesh.
The issue centered on umpire Kumar Dharmasena's decision to permit a Bangladesh review on the penultimate ball, which seemingly bypassed standard protocols.
A source confirmed to Cricbuzz: "The Pakistan team management believe Bangladesh took the review after a replay of the delivery flashed up on the big screen, and as a result came up after the game and informed the referee about their observation."
"Pakistan felt Bangladesh were allowed to review outside the maximum 15-second window within which such a decision must be made," the source added.
Cricbuzz understands that Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson met Rashid post-match to formally register the complaint.
While it isn't clear what outcome PCB are seeking, insiders suggest the match referee met with Hesson and explained the situation in detail, indicating the hosts did not take any undue advantage.
The incident occurred when Pakistan, chasing 291 and nine down, needed 12 runs off two balls. Rishad Hossain bowled one down the leg-side to Shaheen Afridi, and Dharmasena called it a wide. While they can't directly review a wide call, Bangladesh appealed for an lbw, forcing the decision to be sent upstairs.
Replays showed a spike on UltraEdge when the ball was next to the bat, leading to the wide being overturned. Bangladesh lost the review, but it effectively secured the game for them. Notably, no timer was shown on the broadcast.
Pakistan's objection likely stemmed from the initial wide call allowing Bangladesh to see the big-screen replay and make a decision, which should otherwise be taken without any assistance and within the stipulated time.
Shaheen was stumped off the final ball, handing Bangladesh an 11-run win and a 2-1 series victory.
In the post-match presentation, Shaheen did not mention the incident, instead lauding Rishad's bowling and congratulating Bangladesh on their first ODI series win against Pakistan in 11 years.
