CSK sign Spencer Johnson as replacement for Nathan Ellis

Chennai Super Kings have signed left-arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson as a replacement for the injured Nathan Ellis ahead of IPL 2026.

Ellis, 31, was ruled out of the entire season after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury during a domestic one-day final on March 11.

Johnson's IPL Background:

  • Made his IPL debut with Gujarat Titans, who signed him for INR 10 crore in the 2024 auction.
  • Played for Kolkata Knight Riders last season, featuring in four matches.
  • Has played nine IPL matches in total, taking five wickets at an average of 56.80 and an economy rate of 10.39.

International Career:

  • Has represented Australia 13 times in white-ball cricket.
  • In T20Is, he has taken 14 wickets from eight matches at an economy of 8.96.

Johnson will join CSK for INR 1.5 crore. CSK begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30.
