Santner joins Mumbai Indians squad in Delhi
Mitchell Santner has joined the Mumbai Indians squad for the ongoing IPL season, linking up with the team in New Delhi on Thursday.
His arrival bolsters the MI squad, which began its IPL 2026 campaign with a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders last Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium. Santner had received permission from the MI management to join the squad late.
The MI squad practiced at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday night, but Santner did not participate as he arrived in the evening. He is expected to be available for MI's next match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday afternoon.
Santner, who recently led New Zealand to the T20 World Cup final, took two wickets at an economy of 6.60 and scored 120 runs at a strike rate of 142.85 in the tournament.
Last season for MI, Santner took 10 wickets in 13 games with an economy rate of 7.92, a notable performance in a high-scoring season that featured 52 team totals of 200 or more.
With overseas spinner Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar conceding 51 runs without a wicket in the first game, Santner's addition is timely for the five-time champions.
MI are also awaiting the arrival of overseas all-rounder Will Jacks, who, like Santner, was granted late joining permission due to personal reasons. He is expected to join within a week.
