BCB extend Mehidy's ODI captaincy to 2027, Litton to lead in T20Is till 2028

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue as ODI captain until 2027. Litton Das will lead the T20I side through to the 2028 T20 World Cup.

BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim stated the decisions were made to provide long-term stability and vision for the teams.

"Mehidy Hasan Miraz has already been leading the team for about a year, and with the World Cup approaching, we thought that giving him this opportunity would allow him to organise and strengthen the team even better," Fahim said.

Coaching and Development Updates

The BCB also announced appointments to strengthen its coaching structure:

  • Appointed former left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique as a spin-bowling consultant on a one-year contract.
  • Cited a critical shortage of spin-bowling coaches in the country as a key reason for the move.
  • Approved the newly elected selection panel headed by former captain Habibul Bashar Sumon.

Other Board Decisions

The board meeting also addressed several administrative and developmental initiatives:

  • Began work on a new HR policy.
  • Discussed a pension scheme for umpires and players.
  • Considered reintroducing an awards night for players.
  • Explored overseas scholarship opportunities for sports journalists.
  • Plans to publish a sports journal every three months.
  • Expressed willingness to assist government investigations into any irregularities.
