'I will be the last person to go' – Aminul on resignations in BCB

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam said on Saturday that he will be the last person to leave the board room following the resignation of several board directors.

The announcement came after BCB was rocked by another round of resignation of directors. Few other board directors are also contemplating filing their resignation, as it appears increasingly unlikely the current administration will remain in place for long, with the board facing the prospect of dissolution within the week.

Four board directors – Saniyan Taneem, Mehrab Alam, Faiazur Rahman and Manjurul Alam – resigned from their posts on Saturday following a board meeting. Their resignations come just two days after Yasir Mohammed and Faysal Ashique stepped down, triggering speculation over growing unrest within the boardroom. The back-to-back departures have now taken the total number of resignations in the current BCB board to six.

Earlier, Amzad Hussain resigned, citing personal reasons, after being removed as chairman of the Media Committee, while Ishtiaque Sadeeque, who headed the Game Development Committee, also stepped down on similar grounds.

Aminul Islam, who did not attend the press conference following the board meeting, stated his intention during a chat with a private TV channel late on Saturday.

"I will be there holding a chair as I will be the last person to go till the last day Inshallah," Aminul was quoted in a show aired on Jamuna TV. "Our team (board of directors) are good and they are dedicated and honest so I want to work with this team and serve Bangladesh cricket," he said. "We could not work with freedom for one day as an external force was always disturbing us and still doing that. You should support us and you know who I am meaning because without support we cannot move forward. Our cricket is stagnant and I have said a lot of times that an external force is disturbing us and because of that the pace of our cricket has slowed down."
