Tim David fined for refusing to hand over ball to umpires

Tim David has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct during Mumbai Indians' game at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 12).

David was found guilty of violating Article 2.4, which pertains to disobeying an umpire's instruction. The first instance came in the 18th over of RCB's innings when he refused to immediately hand over the ball after it was changed by the umpires. David chose to check the changed ball and even threw it up to check the seam alignment. The second occurred in the final over, when he again failed to comply with the umpires' directive, amounting to repeated non-compliance.

He admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate. As it was his side's first offence of the season under Article 2.22, the standard penalty was applied.
