
South Africa on brink of WTC glory
Aiden Markram scored a majestic eighth Test century, while Temba Bavuma remained unbeaten on 65, guiding South Africa to 213/2 in their chase of 282 on Day 3 of the 2025 World Test Championship final at Lord's.
Markram and Bavuma shared an unbroken 143-run stand, putting South Africa firmly in control. They need just 69 runs to win with eight wickets in hand.
The Lord's pitch eased out, allowing runs to flow freely. Markram and Wiaan Mulder initially revived South Africa's hopes with a 61-run partnership.
Mitchell Starc struck twice in the afternoon session, dismissing Ryan Rickelton for six and Mulder for 27. Bavuma was dropped early on two by Steve Smith, who injured his hand in the process.
Markram brought up his century in the penultimate over before stumps, while Bavuma raised his 25th Test half-century.
Earlier, Australia's tail wagged, with Mitchell Starc scoring a patient 50 and adding 63 runs for the last wicket with Pat Cummins. Australia were bowled out for 207 in their second innings, setting South Africa a target of 282.
