Gill's 265* takes India to 564/7 at Tea
Shubman Gill scored a majestic 265* as India piled on runs in the middle session on Day 2 of the Edgbaston Test. India added 145 runs at 4.67 RPO for the loss of one wicket.
Gill continued his impressive form from the morning session, leading a 144-run stand with Washington Sundar, who contributed a handy 42.
Gill became the third Indian to score a double century in England and the second youngest Indian captain to achieve the feat. He also took India past 500, the sixth instance of a visiting team breaching the mark at Edgbaston.
Washington faced some early challenges but counter-attacked when England used the short-ball tactic. He pulled two boundaries in quick succession off Tongue.
Gill continued to score freely, hitting boundaries off Bashir and Brook. He reached the 250 milestone with a boundary off Brook, becoming only the sixth Indian to achieve this feat.
Joe Root finally broke the partnership, dismissing Washington for 42. India reached 564/7 at Tea with Gill poised to convert his fantastic knock into a triple century.
