Lungi Ngidi ruled out of home summer

Lungi Ngidi, a key member of the South Africa cricket team, has been ruled out of this summer's four home Tests due to a groin injury. Ngidi was expected to return to action in January, missing out on crucial matches that could seal a spot in the WTC final.

Impact on South Africa's chances

The series against Sri Lanka, starting at Kingsmead on November 24, and a rubber against Pakistan beginning in Centurion on December 26, will be critical for South Africa's chances. A win in both series could secure a spot in the WTC final at Lord's in June next year.

Other injury concerns

Nandre Burger, a fellow pacer, is sidelined with a lumbar problem, leaving South Africa with only two potent pace threats. However, Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee have returned from their conditioning breaks and are expected to participate in the upcoming series.

Other notable returns

Lutho Sipamla made his international return in almost three years during the third T20I against India in Centurion on Wednesday.
