Baartman Ruled Out of Australia ODIs with Hamstring Injury

South Africa seamer Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Australia due to a left hamstring injury, according to a Cricket South Africa statement released on Sunday (September 13).

Duan Jansen, who recently debuted in the Namibia T20I tri-series, has been named as his replacement. He will join the squad on September 19 when the team convenes in Durban.

Baartman was not part of South Africa’s ongoing ODI series against Namibia, their first one-day assignment since the India tour in November-December last year. He last played for South Africa during the New Zealand T20Is in March. After playing Major League Cricket in June and July, he returned to competitive cricket with the Dolphins’ season-opening fixture against the Titans in the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 this week. However, he bowled just five overs in the Titans’ only innings and did not return to bat in the Dolphins’ second innings, prompting CSA to issue the injury statement.

Jansen made his ODI debut in the ongoing series in Namibia, picking up 4-31 in the second one-dayer. With South Africa already 2-0 up in the three-match series, Jansen was one of three changes made by the visitors in the final fixture.

South Africa are also without Kagiso Rabada, who continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Gerald Coetzee, who hasn’t played ODIs since the 2023 World Cup, has been recalled, while Anrich Nortje was not considered. The rest of the pace attack includes Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Kwena Maphaka, and Corbin Bosch.

The three-match ODI series will be played from September 24 to 30, with games in Durban, Johannesburg, and Potchefstroom.
