Bangladesh survive Rovman Powell blitz to take early lead

Bangladesh won by seven runs against the West Indies in the first T20I in St. Vincent. Mahedi Hasan took 4 wickets for 13, dismissing the West Indies top-order. Rovman Powell scored 60 off 35 balls, but it wasn't enough.

West Indies needed 10 runs from the last over with Powell batting. Hasan Mahmud bowled a yorker followed by a widish delivery which Powell nicked behind. Bangladesh won.

The hosts started poorly, losing Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran in the first two overs. Johnson Charles hit two sixes and a four in the fourth over, but Mahedi dismissed him. He then took two more wickets in his third over. Andre Fletcher and Roston Chase were also dismissed cheaply. West Indies were 61 for 7 in 12 overs.

Romario Shepherd and Powell put on 67 runs to bring West Indies back into the game. They scored 50 runs between the 14th and 16th overs. Shepherd was out in the 17th over. Alzarri Joseph hit a boundary to leave West Indies needing 10 runs from the last over. Hasan Mahmud held his nerve to win the game for Bangladesh.

Earlier, Bangladesh lost Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das early. Afif Hossain was out for 10. Soumya Sarkar and Jaker Ali put on 57 runs. Jaker was out for 27. Mahedi Hasan and Shamim Hossain added 30 runs. Bangladesh finished on 147 for 6.
