Australia Makes Changes to Test Squad for Remainder of Border-Gavaskar Series

Australia has dropped opener Nathan McSweeney for the last two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar series. McSweeney, who made his debut in the series opener, has struggled with scores of 10, 0, 39, 10*, 9 and 4 in the three Tests so far.

Sam Konstas Called Up to Replace McSweeney

19-year-old New South Wales opener Sam Konstas has been called up to replace McSweeney. Konstas has been in impressive form, scoring an unbeaten 73 against India A and a 107 in the pink-ball warm-up game for the Prime Minister's XI. He also scored 88 for New South Wales against Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield and a 56 off 27 balls for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.

Australia's Squad for Remainder of Series

  • Sam Konstas (replaces Nathan McSweeney)
  • Sean Abbott (returns to the squad)
  • Beau Webster (added to the squad)
  • Jhye Richardson (added to the squad)

Chair of Selectors George Bailey's Comments

"We remain confident Nathan has the ability and temperament to succeed at Test level in the future. It was a difficult decision to leave him out. It has clearly been a challenge at the top of the order for batters throughout the series and we want to provide the option of a different line up for the next two matches."

"We look forward to watching Sam's game develop further. His style of batting offers a point of difference."
