During the BBL match between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder, Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft were taken to a hospital for further assessment after a collision while attempting to take a catch.

Incident details

  • The collision occurred in the 16th over of the Scorchers' innings when Cooper Connolly played a shot in the air towards the leg side.
  • Both Sams (infield) and Bancroft (outfield) ran towards the ball without seeing each other, resulting in the collision.
  • Medical support was called as both players lay immobile on the field for a while.

Match impact

  • Play was halted for approximately 20 minutes.
  • Sams was taken off the field in a medicab, and Bancroft left with a bloody nose.
  • Both players were substituted, and Ollie Davies and Hugh Weighbenm joined the Thunder team.

Injury concerns

  • According to a statement from Thunder, both players demonstrated symptoms of concussion and might have suffered fractures.
  • They were transported to the hospital for assessment.
