Stood down from SCG Test due to lack of runs: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, India's current captain, clarified the circumstances surrounding his removal from the SCG Test. He revealed that he made the decision after discussing with the coach and selector, as runs were not coming from his bat and the team needed players in form.

"The chat I had with the coach and the selector was very simple – runs weren't coming from my bat, form isn't there and this is an important match so we need players in form… For me it was a difficult decision, but it was also a sensible decision. I didn't want to think too far ahead. The only thought was right now at this point what does the team need."

Rohit struggled with his form throughout the series, making only 31 runs across five innings. He decided to step aside after the Melbourne Test, where India lost the match and the series lead.

"This decision is not a retirement decision. Nor am I stepping aside from the game… I stepped out of this Test because the bat isn't singing… We've seen it a lot in cricket that every minute, every second, everyday life changes. So I believe in myself that things will change."

Rohit emphasized that this decision was not taken lightly and was difficult for him, but he had to put the team's needs first.

"You play for yourself, score your runs and go enjoy… What use is that? If you don't think of the team, you don't want those kinds of players… Try doing what's required for the team."
