Melbourne Stars Secure Fourth Straight Win in Big Bash League

Melbourne Stars' resurgence in the 2024-25 Big Bash League continued with a win over Melbourne Renegades, their fourth in a row. This stunning turnaround has kept them in contention for a knockout spot, after starting the season with five consecutive losses.

Glenn Maxwell's Heroics

Glenn Maxwell played a crucial role in the victory, scoring a stunning 90 runs to single-handedly rescue his team. He walked out to bat when Stars were struggling, with Sam Harper and Ben Duckett already dismissed. Maxwell joined Marcus Stoinis at the crease and forged a crucial partnership with Usama Mir, who remained unbeaten.

Maxwell's Sixathon

Maxwell's innings was marked by a sixathon, with him clearing the boundary ten times. He also took singles off the final ball or penultimate ball to farm the strike. His partnership with Mir was worth 81 runs, with Maxwell bringing up his fifty and racing to 85 with a hat-trick of sixes.

Mark Steketee's Five-Fer

Mark Steketee was instrumental in Renegades' downfall, taking a five-fer to finish with 5/17. He started off by bowling four wides but finished his over with the wickets of both openers. Steketee's performance was crucial in restricting Renegades to 123 in 19.5 overs.
