Nigar Sultana to Step Down as Bangladesh T20I Captain

Bangladesh’s Nigar Sultana will relinquish the T20I captaincy after the Asian Games, opting to concentrate on her batting and wicket‑keeping while remaining the ODI skipper. She formally notified the board in a letter from Japan on 15 September.

• Captaincy tenure: Took over the T20I role in 2022.
• Key achievement: Led Bangladesh to their first World Cup win in a decade, defeating Scotland at the 2024 T20 World Cup.
• Performance in the tournament: Scored 104 runs in four innings and effected seven dismissals behind the stumps.
• Recent form:
  • Unbeaten champions in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
  • Lost a 2‑1 home series to Sri Lanka.
  • Mixed results in the Scotland‑Netherlands tri‑series.
  • Won two of five matches at the 2026 World Cup, prompting scrutiny of her leadership.

Nigar will continue to lead Bangladesh in the 50‑over format.
