Bethell 87 in vain as Hurricanes continue their dominance

Jacob Bethell scored 87 off 50 balls but Melbourne Renegades lost to Hobart Hurricanes, who recorded their sixth straight win in BBL 2024-25. The loss pushed the Renegades to last on the points table and out of playoff contention.

The Renegades were put in to bat and lost two wickets in the third over, including a runout. They slumped to 23/3 inside the powerplay before Bethell put on a recovery act. He added 46 runs with Tim Seifert and 41 with Will Sutherland. Bethell guided the Renegades to a competitive total before being dismissed in the final over.

In the chase, the Hurricanes did not have a standout performer but saw through the chase with useful contributions. After slumping to 63/4 in nine overs, Nikhil Chaudhary scored 36 off 27 balls and Matthew Wade added 36. Adam Zampa kept the Renegades in the game but Tim David hit a crucial six in the final over to secure the win.

Brief Scores:
Melbourne Renegades 154/7 in 20 overs (Jacob Bethell 87; Riley Meredith 3-36) lost to Hobart Hurricanes 155/6 in 19.4 overs (Matthew Wade 36) by 4 wickets
