Khawaja Slams Ton as Sri Lanka Struggle

Australia continued to dominate the opening day of the first Test in Galle, with Usman Khawaja's 119* leading the charge. Steve Smith also made a strong contribution, finishing the second session unbeaten on 64, as the visitors scored 116 runs without losing a wicket.

The session was marked by a series of confident batting displays from both Khawaja and Smith, who pounced on overpitched deliveries from the Sri Lankan spinners. The hosts, however, were unable to capitalize on their chances, with Khawaja surviving a faint nick to the 'keeper and Smith bringing up his 50 with a single towards mid-wicket.

Travis Head also made a significant contribution, dispatching Asitha Fernando for three fours in the opening over and bringing up his 50 off just 35 balls. However, he was eventually dismissed after giving the tourists a fantastic start.

Brief Scores
Australia 261/2 (Usman Khawaja 119*, Steve Smith 64*, Travis Head 57; Jeffrey Vandersay 1-67, Prabath Jayasuriya 1-88) vs Sri Lanka
