Alana King helps Australia bag opening day honours

Australia continued to dominate England in the Women's Ashes as they bagged the opening day honours at the MCG in the one-off D/N Test.

Alyssa Healy opted to bowl first, and the seamers made an immediate impact. Alana King then wove her magic with a four-fer to bowl England out for just 170.

In reply, Australia lost debutant Georgia Voll but went into the stumps at 56/1, trailing by only 114 runs.

The Australian pacers continued to find movement with the new ball, posing questions for England. Nat Sciver-Brunt looked steady, but Heather Knight was trapped lbw by Kim Garth that reduced the visitors to 47/3.

Sophia Dunkley and Sciver-Brunt looked set for the long haul, but Alana King broke the partnership at a vital juncture in the second session. Sciver-Brunt fought hard for a valiant fifty but didn't find enough support from the lower order.

Brief scores:

• Australia W: 56/1 (Annabel Sutherland 24*) – trail England W: 170 (Nat Sciver-Brunt 51; Alana King 4/45, Kim Garth 2/13) by 114 runs
