Gujarat Giants Appoint Ashleigh Gardner as Captain

Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner has been named captain of the Gujarat Giants for the upcoming Women's Premier League season, replacing Beth Mooney.

Gardner's Appointment

Gardner was one of the team's top performers in the previous two seasons, scoring 324 runs and taking 17 wickets. She expressed her excitement to lead the team and praised the Indian talent in the squad.

"It is an absolute honour for me to be named the captain of Gujarat Giants," Gardner said. "I have loved being a part of this team and I am excited to lead this fantastic group in the upcoming season."

Head Coach's Endorsement

Head coach Michael Klinger praised Gardner's leadership qualities, describing her as a "fierce competitor" with "game awareness, tactical acumen, and ability to inspire players."

"She is a fierce competitor. Her game awareness, tactical acumen, and ability to inspire players make her the ideal choice to captain Gujarat Giants," Klinger said.

Mooney's New Role

Mooney will continue to have a leadership role within the team, focusing on wicketkeeping and opening the batting lineup.

"I would like to thank Mooney for her highly valued leadership. Now, she will be able to focus on wicketkeeping and opening the batting lineup," Klinger said.

Team Roster

The Giants have purchased four players in the auction, including Indian all-rounder Simran Shaikh, and retained the services of Deandra Dottin.
