Jay Shah's Whistle-Stop Visit to Wanderers and Centurion

Jay Shah, ICC chair and former BCCI secretary, made a brief visit to Wanderers and Centurion, where he was received with a gala dinner and a tour of the facilities.

Shah's visit coincided with the Titans' annual awards, and he was driven to the Wanderers by Lions president Mohammad Moosajee. The ICC chair had been attending board meetings in Zimbabwe and stopped over in Botswana before arriving in South Africa.

According to Jono Leaf-Wright, Lions chief executive, Shah's visit was a casual affair, with no official agenda or meeting. The two simply took a walk around the ground, chatting about global cricket and building relationships.

The visit is significant, as South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia will host the 2027 men's World Cup, with the Wanderers and Centurion set to be among the venues used. The tournament will feature drop-in pitches and modern floodlight technology, which Shah would have seen during his visit.

Shah's interest in appraising the readiness of the grounds firsthand is a positive sign, as it shows he is committed to ensuring the success of the tournament.
