IPL 2027 Auction to be Held in India

  • The BCCI has decided to host the IPL 2027 mini‑auction in India, reversing the recent practice of holding the event abroad (Dubai, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi).
  • The decision was announced at the IPL Governing Council meeting on 15 September.

Why the change?

  • Franchises raised concerns about the logistical and operational challenges of traveling overseas for a mini‑auction.
  • The BCCI considered these concerns, especially after last year’s Abu Dhabi auction, and will now explore an Indian city that can accommodate the required hospitality.

Venue considerations

  • The city will be selected based on the availability of five‑star hotels and at least 100 rooms for a couple of nights, taking into account India’s wedding season (Oct‑Dec).

Impact Player rule

  • The Governing Council left the future of the Impact Player rule undecided.
  • A follow‑up meeting is scheduled for next month to reach a final decision.
  • Franchises are reportedly opposed to the rule and may prefer to retain it for at most one more season.
