BCB President Hopes to Eradicate Match-Fixing Malaise
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed has expressed hope that the match-fixing menace in the country's cricket has reduced significantly, but acknowledged that it has not been completely eradicated. Ahmed made these comments following a recent controversy in a domestic game, which has sparked fresh allegations of corruption.
Investigation Underway
The BCB has initiated an investigation into the allegations, which surfaced during a match between Gulshan Cricket Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in the Bashundhara Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2024-25. Ahmed assured that the Board will cooperate fully with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in its investigation.
Support for Anti-Corruption Efforts
Ahmed also expressed support for the ACC, which recently raided the BCB headquarters in connection with the allegations. He assured that the Board will provide all necessary documents and papers to aid the investigation.
Financial Challenges
Ahmed also spoke about the financial challenges facing the BCB, citing a lull in the sponsorship market and the difficulty in finding broadcasters for the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe. He expressed gratitude to Bangladesh Television (BTV) for agreeing to telecast the series, and hopes to secure another TV channel to partner with.
Media Rights Tender
The BCB has invited expressions of interest (EOIs) from consulting firms to help with the tendering process for the worldwide media rights of the men's team's home series till June 2027. Ahmed hopes to attract international parties to participate in the bidding process.
