SRH eliminated from IPL 2025 as rain forces no-result against DC

Fighting for survival, Sunrisers Hyderabad came up with a clinical bowling display to restrict Delhi Capitals to 133/7 and give themselves a good chance of securing a victory to keep their slender hopes afloat.

Powerplay: Cummins leaves DC in a mess

Karun Nair walked out to open alongside Faf du Plessis, becoming Delhi Capitals' sixth different opening pair this season. But the experiment misfired immediately with Nair falling for a golden duck – caught behind off a peach of a first delivery from Pat Cummins. Du Plessis didn't last much longer either, edging to the 'keeper in Cummins' next over while attempting to play across the line. Things took a turn for the worse for DC, as Abishek Porel's leading edge handed Cummins his third wicket in the powerplay, making him the first IPL captain to achieve that feat. Axar Patel then perished to a slower ball from Harshal Patel, leaving DC reeling at four down inside the powerplay.

Middle overs: SRH tie DC down

The slide continued for DC even after the field spread, with Jaydev Unadkat finding the outside edge of KL Rahul's bat off the first ball of the seventh over. The regular wickets meant DC's batters weren't able to get away at any stage, with the boundary options also getting limited. There was a sense of momentum for DC when Vipraj Nigam pulled Zeeshan Ansari for a six and got a streaky four as well, but the total only limped to 47 at the halfway stage.

Death overs: Ashutosh, Stubbs take DC to fighting total

Only seven came in the 16th over as Cummins completed an excellent spell, finishing with 3-19. Ashutosh's two successive fours off Harshal took DC past the 100-run mark in the 17th over, followed by two fours for Stubbs off Eshan Malinga which brought up a half-century stand off 35 balls.

The hosts did not face a single ball in the second innings as it rained for more than an hour, which meant the groundstaff didn't have enough time to make the field game ready, The teams were forced to share points, giving the Capitals some breathing space from the sides below them while knocking SRH out of contention.

Brief scores: Delhi Capitals 133/7 in 20 overs (Tristan Stubbs 41*, Ashutosh Sharma 41; Pat Cummins 3-19) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – No Result.
