Rohit Sharma Retires from Test Cricket
Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket, effective immediately. He will continue to play One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India.
In a statement, Rohit said: "I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format."
Rohit's 11-year Test career saw him play 67 matches, captaining 24 of them. He finishes with 4301 runs, including 12 centuries.
The decision comes ahead of India's upcoming tour of England, where they will play five Tests. The selection of the squad is set to happen soon, and will now have a new captain.
Rohit's Test career was marked by periods of success and struggle. He scored two centuries in his first three Tests, but then went through a five-year period with only one hundred. He found form again in 2019, scoring two hundreds against South Africa, and continued to perform well in 2021 and 2024.
However, his average dropped in the 2024-25 season, and he managed only one 50+ score in 15 innings. His captaincy record also took a hit, with India losing a home series to New Zealand for the first time in 12 years.
